Passing your Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is a must if you intend on furthering your education to the Secondary level.

In Ghana as in all other West African countries, BECE is the final exam all Junior High School leavers are mandated to take. It is the only acceptable certificate in all Ghanaian Senior High Schools.

In this article, we will share some practical tips on how you can pass your BECE successfully and gain admission into the SHS of your dreams.

How can I pass my BECE easily?

There is no magic formula for passing any exams. However, there are certain tips that when applied judiciously, could produce remarkable results for you.

Below are some of the helpful tips you can apply in your exam preparations:

Take your mock exams

Before any batch of final year students are sent off to the exams hall to write their BECE exams, every Junior High School organizes mock exams to help students have a feel of the standard exam atmosphere.

Take advantage of these exams to properly assess yourself to discover your strengths, weaknesses and other helpful information like how long you tend to spend on each question. Doing this will help you know yourself better and identify which areas and subjects need more effort from you.

Solve past questions

BECE questions from decades ago are available online and have also been printed into books for easy access. Acquire some of these questions and try your hands on as many of them as possible.

Take time to check out the marking schemes as well to have a better understanding of how the BECE papers are scored.

Participate in group studies

Learning on your own is great, but sometimes two (or more) heads are actually better than one. Forming study groups with some of your mates who are equally devoted to their studies as you is another way to properly prepare for exams.

The intelligent debates and sharing of knowledge will go a long way in helping you memorize some stuff.

Make more time to study

Personal studies must never be underrated. Invest a lot more time in learning on your own. Revise your notes and try your hands on many sample BECE questions.

Rest when necessary

A lot goes into exam preparations, it’s not only about the books. When you work hard, don’t forget to make time for the traditional 8-hours sleep as recommended by the experts.

A good rest will keep you healthy and revitalize you for every new day.

Eat well

Last but certainly not least is eating habits. Make sure to eat healthy and nutritious food 3-4 times a day to keep yourself well nourished. After learning hard, you’ll need your strength to write the papers.

Conclusion

In conclusion, preparing for exams can be very exhausting, but with diligence and seriousness, it will soon pay off.
