Linda Nolan Biography

Born in Dublin in 1959, Linda moved to Blackpool with her family when she was just three years old. Her parents, Tommy and Maureen Nolan were both singers and formed the Singing Nolans, which Linda was a part of. Linda attended St Catherine’s Catholic Secondary School in Blackpool and later went on to attend The Cardinal Wiseman School in Greenford, West London.

As a member of The Nolans, Linda achieved great success. The group toured with Frank Sinatra in 1975, won the Tokyo Music Festival in 1981, and had seven UK top 20 hits between 1979 and 1982. However, Linda left the group in 1983 and gained the label “Naughty Nolan” due to her posing in risqué publicity photos.

After leaving The Nolans, Linda pursued a career in theatre, including an eight-season residency as Maggie May on Blackpool’s Central Pier (1986–93) and two seasons as Rosie O’Grady on Blackpool’s South Pier (1994–95). She also supported Gene Pitney on his 1984 UK tour.

In 2009, Linda reunited with her sisters Bernie, Coleen, and Maureen for a successful tour of the UK and Ireland. They also released an album, I’m in the Mood Again, which reached No. 22 on the UK Albums Chart. Linda also took part in the 13th series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2014.

However, Linda has faced her fair share of challenges in life. In 2006, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a single mastectomy as part of her treatment. She was given the all-clear from cancer in 2011 but was diagnosed with cellulitis and lymphedema in her arm the same year.

In 2017, Linda was diagnosed with a form of incurable secondary breast cancer in her pelvis. She has been undergoing regular radiotherapy treatment to prevent cancer from spreading but has said that she would reject chemotherapy if the cancer was found to be terminal.

On top of her health struggles, Linda has also had to deal with the trauma of sexual assault. In 2014, she claimed that she was sexually assaulted by Rolf Harris in 1975 while The Nolans were supporting Harris on a tour of South Africa.

In 2023, Linda confirmed on Good Morning Britain that her cancer had spread to her brain. She now has to use a wheelchair as her legs cannot support her body. Despite her challenges, Linda remains positive and open to trying new treatments. She has spoken about a new drug that has been out for a year and is having positive effects on brain cancer, and she is open to trying it.
