Sharon Mbabazi, a 22-year-old lady from Uganda, is an inspiration to many as she defied all odds to fund her education. Sharon faced numerous challenges after losing her mother at the tender age of five. However, she remained steadfast in her pursuit of education.
“My village mates mocked me for being home because of school fees default, they used to call us poor because of our nearly falling house made out of soil,” Sharon narrated. “These made me work even harder just to show them that I can change my life and that of my family too. And indeed it happened. People could take my bricks and fail to pay me. But I looked at my background and swore never to give up.”
Despite the difficulties she faced, Sharon worked tirelessly as a brickmaker and bricklayer to earn a living. She refused to let poverty stand in the way of her dreams. “I had to find a way to fund my education, so I started making bricks and laying them myself,” she said.
Sharon’s hard work and perseverance paid off as she recently graduated from the Muteesa I Royal University in Masaka, Uganda, with a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication. Her determination to succeed despite the challenges she faced is truly remarkable.
One of Sharon’s classmates, Aaron Mbwali, described her as hardworking and always willing to try new things. “Mbabazi was so hardworking, she has graduated to because of her desire for education. She has been a Challenger to us and always wanted to try out new things. She didn’t mind about those who bullied her over brick laying,” he said.
Sharon’s story is a testament to the fact that anything is possible if you work hard and never give up on your dreams. Despite the challenges she faced, she remained focused on her goal and refused to let poverty hold her back.
